Blogger Turning Off FTP Publishing

A few days ago Blogger announced they were turning off FTP publishing. The cancellation of this feature won't affect most, if any, garden bloggers, but I thought I'd share a couple of links I've come across in case there is one or two garden bloggers who publish their blogs via FTP.

The announcement on Blogger Buzz.

Blogger's Product Manager, Rick Klau, makes a post on his personal blog.

Pete Hopkins, programmer at Google, shares how the sausage was made when they came up with the plan to migrate FTP publishers to .blogspot or the custom domain feature.

The Blogger team has set up a dedicated blog to communicate with FTP publishers.

Like I said, I don't believe this will affect any garden blogs, but it is interesting--to me at least-- to see Blogger trying to make this as painless as possible for their users.

  1. This actually does affect me, plus we're migrating our domains to a new server at about the same time. We've been mapping out a plan ever since the email came from Blogger. The upside is that I'll finally have access to all the customizable templates!

  2. Diane, That dawned on the other day when I was visiting your blog and noticed your pics were flickr hosted. Having read a lot about the problems FTP publishers have I put two and two together and realized you were an FTP publisher. On Twitter I learned Tangled Branches also has an FTP blog.

Hope it goes smoothly for you two.

  3. You can keep your blog as it was, with the domain the same, etc. http://digg.com/d31KvPY

I hope you find this blog a useful garden blogging resource. Sometimes I may reply to comments with my MrBrownThumb account or I may reply with my Garden Bloggers account. Hope this isn't confusing. If you're looking for gardening information check out "Google For Gardeners"
